Moving with control

This stage focuses on refining the essential skills that set swimmers up for success in stroke development. Members learn to kick on their back and complete 4 metres independently. From there, they bring together everything learned in stages 3, 4, and 5 for a smooth, continuous 8-metre swim. This includes rolling to breathe, kicking on their back, then rolling forward again to finish the swim confidently at the end of the lane.

Skills to Achieve

  • Complete a 4 metre push and glide, then roll to a back float for 5 seconds
  • Swim 4-5 metres using one-arm streamline freestyle kick
  • Perform 4-5 metres of backstroke kick with arms by your side
  • Complete an 8 metre independent swim, including one roll to the back for a breath
  • Achieve an independent deep-water submersion
